How Can ear Infection Along With Runny Nose Be Treated?
My 5 year old went to the doctor Monday night with an ear infection. No fever, but a cough and runny nose. For the past few days we've been administering the antibiotic for the ear infection, but her cough and runny nose have continued. I feel like her cough has worsened actually. She now has had a low grade fever for the past couple of days and so I've been giving her ibuprofen for it. In addition to all of this her eyes are swollen, watery and leaking yellow mucus/puss in the corner from time to time. Is this the flu?
As per your complain if there are symptoms of cold along with mucous discharge from the eyes and swelling watery eyes and cough then there can be sinus infection along with infection progressing to ears due to connection of ears and throat via Eustachian tube..
There are large sinuses behind the eyes and discharge from eyes can be caused due to infection and mucous accumulation in sinuses..
Consult a Paediatrician or an ENT Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Sinus x ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
He can be advised a course of antibiotics like Augmentin or Levofloxacin along with anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and saline nasal irrigations and steam inhalations.. Antibiotic and analgesic ear drops can also be advised..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
